Legal Brief for December, 2020

Wisdom & Humour at Christmas

We will all be glad to see the last of 2020.  At this time last year who would have imagined in their worst nightmares the pandemic that would overtake our province and the world.  With the recent news of positive results from vaccine trials it appears that there is some of the proverbial light at the end of the tunnel, and a hope that there may be a return to more normal ways of living in 2021.

In the spirit of the season here are a few quotes from some famous, and not so famous, people on Christmas:

  • "Christmas gift suggestions: To your enemy, forgiveness.  To an opponent, tolerance.  To a friend, your heart.  To a customer, service.  To all, charity.  To every child, a good example.  To yourself, respect."  (Oren Arnold, American author)

  • "It is Christmas every time you let God love others through you.  Yes, it is Christmas every time you smile at your brother and offer him your hand."  (Mother Teresa)

  • "I love Christmas.  I receive a lot of wonderful presents I can't wait to exchange."  (Henny Youngman, American comedian and musician)

  • "Christmas is a season not only of rejoicing but of reflection."  (Winston Churchill)

  • "I once bought my kids a set of batteries for Christmas with a note on it saying, Toys Not Included."  (Bernard Manning, English comedian)

  • "One of the most glorious messes in the world is the mess created in the living room on Christmas Day.  Don't clean it up too quickly."  (Andy Rooney, American writer)

  • "I will honor Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year."  (Ebenezer Scrooge)

Best wishes for your Christmas season, and for brighter days in the year ahead.
